Mission Trips

In April 2008, Members of Prairie Avenue, Blue Mound and Central Christian Churches participated in a trip to New Orleans to Westside Christian. Westside is a permanent mission station that can house up to 70 volunteers. !0 people from our Decatur Area churches were joined by 20 volunteers from our Arizona Region.

This is a duplex that suffered water and wind damage during Katrina. Our task was to remove all of the old siding. Wrap the house and prepare it for cement siding. On the interior, we were hanging dry wall in the kitchen and the bathroom. The house had severe termite damage.

This is a four-plex purchased by a ministry in New Orleans to help the homeless with transitional housing. Throughout New Orleans we saw large piles of trash. Our assignment was to put two coats of orange paint on this building and repair the severe damage to the second story siding.

A third location for our team was at a Ninth Ward Church that had taken on heavy water damage. Much of the Ninth Ward was under water for over 20 days. The location of many members of this  congregation is not known. The church is being painted a bright blue. So much of this neighborhood has been evacuated and many of the few remaining homes and businesses are boarded up.
